The COVID-19 pandemic has not only affected the health of people but it has also affected people socially and economically. Some people are unemployed now and amid the coronavirus crisis, they also face hunger crisis and are battling for survival.
Amidst the COVID-19 crisis, SEWA-USA & HSS-USA karyakartas have emerged as heroes who have pledged to help the people in need. The organization members are trying to help the first responders, community in need, Indian students and seniors across the country.
Sewa International has been active on the ground early, to help deal with the Coronavirus pandemic situation.
The Hindu faith-based humanitarian organization SEWA donated around 25 thousand masks to first responders. They have also been distributing gloves and sanitizers in various parts of the country such as California, Georgia, Chicago, Pennsylvania, etc.

Not just protective equipments, the karyakartas have also donated healthy meal boxes to many including international students.
SEWA international had also collaborated with the Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh of Columbus and Bhutanese Community to deliver 120 handmade masks to Dublin Senior Community.
Sewa International Houston Chapter and its Partner Aling’s Chinese Bistro catered meals for 70 First responders at the Gessner Police station in Houston.
The organization also aims to bring together matching blood donors and critically ill COVID-19 patients seeking plasma therapy to treat patients with respiratory failure from COVID-19.
These are the steps taken by SEWA international to help people survive the pandemic:
- Setting up a team of 50 physicians and attorneys for guidance and support
- Establishing 7 24/7 helpline centres to offer non-medical advice
- Setting up a team of more than 1000 volunteers
- Raising $310,000 for COVID-19 relief fund
